Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra, famous for his colorful murals and kaleidoscopic style, created an extraordinary work of art in San Marino in 2022. His work The History of San Marino honors the history and tradition of the small state. It brings together key symbols and events of the republic and combines industrial architecture with public art and cultural heritage.

Street art that you have to look for
You don’t discover this mural by chance on a walk, because it is located away from the city. From the capital of the Republic, it takes almost two hours on foot or 15 minutes by car to reach the monumental work of art. At the destination, a signposted footbridge leads to a long viewing platform that offers a view of the work.

Kobra’s mural art becomes a stamp motif
Kobra works with spray and acrylic paints as well as stencils. These techniques allow him to create precise and lively large-scale murals. His style combines bright colors with geometric patterns to create a dynamic, modern aesthetic. As a special recognition, the San Marino Post Office issued a stamp designed by Kobra, emphasizing the importance of this art project.

The dual leadership of San Marino is about the Capitani Regenti, one of the oldest democratic offices in the world. More recent attractions in San Marino include well-developed hiking trails. The Sentiero della Rupe circular trail leads past the three towers of the Republic and then turns into a cliff path that runs along the steep, rocky flank of Monte Titano. Whether you simply stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and enjoy the view again and again or take an extended hike, for example to Eduardo Kobra’s remote mural “The History of San Marino”: In the evening, restaurants such as Cesare, La Terrazza or Il Ghetto da Ottavio reward you with culinary specialties. A snack for in between is already set with piadina!
