Own the blank page or how to become Photo of the Month

The renowned photo agency Alamy has dedicated its March POTM (Photo of the Month) competition to the theme Empowered Women at Work. I was very pleased with the result, as most of the pictures were taken by photographer Georg Berg. 16 pictures from my camera made it onto the list of 80 images that Alamy has compiled for its publishing clients this month as an example of a currently relevant trend.

Success in the Alamy Trend Report

The selected photographs were taken on research trips for our travel magazine Tellerrandstories. With my documentary approach, I have emphasized the protagonists and integrated meaningful details. The photos show women in different professional contexts: Craftswomen, farmers or women in technical professions. What unites them is the appreciation of often overlooked achievements in a changing world of work. The global perspective is also reflected in the motifs: from the boat builder on Usedom, the street vendor in Sierra Leone to the engine driver on the Rhaetian Railway – the diversity of female working environments becomes visible.

Founded stories about women

We welcome the fact that Alamy has taken up this topic as a happy coincidence. As an editorial team, we have made a point of giving women a leading role in our stories for years. “The success in the Alamy competition is more than just personal recognition. It shows that topics that are close to our hearts also resonate globally. Making women visible in the world of work is not a niche, but a social necessity,” says editor Angela Berg.

Visual trends

Our editorial decision has paid off. The images that the Alamy Content Team compiles for its publishing clients from the large agency pool represent current visual trends every month. The fact that our photographs make up the largest share this time confirms the relevance of our topics. The images available at Alamy are distributed via 675 partner agencies in 173 countries – a strong reach for content that was originally created for our digital travel magazine.

In this sense, the success fits perfectly into the Moment mal section. It encourages you to look beyond your own nose and recognize the connections between local stories and global developments.

This is how Alamy describes the competition Photo of the Month.
